A Damned Take on Women in Horror Films
The Guy’s Point of View!
In honor of Women in Horror Month 2017, I asked six male horror writers for their top-five favorite horror films staring strong leading ladies and why they loved them so much. So, without further ado…
Day 22 – Brian Moreland:
HUSH
Leading Lady: Kate Siegel
Synopsis:
A deaf writer who retreated into the woods to live a solitary life must fight for her life in silence when a masked killer appears at her window.
Brian’s opinion:
“This movie follows a similar set up to I Spit on Your Grave, in that Maddie (Kate Siegel) is a lone writer innocently working on her book at a remote cabin in the woods. The big differences in Hush are that Maddie is deaf and she’s being stalked by one sadistic killer with a crossbow. It’s another cat-and-mouse game, as the cocky killer reveals his evil intent to Maddie early on. Trapped inside her cabin without a working phone, Maddie has no choice but to figure out how to survive before the killer gets to her. Over the course of the movie, Maddie deals with her terror, has some realistic fight scenes, and relies on cunning and inner toughness to fight a killer who seems to have all the advantages.”
