A Damned Take on Women in Horror Films
The Guy’s MY Point of View!

Nina’s B&E Bonus Pick – o3!

Wondering what a B&E bonus pick is? Since I handed my blog over to the guys for their opinions on strong leading ladies for WiHM this year, I’m doing a little breaking and entering into their realm and posting a few picks of my own! Here is number three.

May

Leading Lady: Angela Bettis

Synopsis:
A lonely young woman traumatized by a difficult childhood and her increasingly desperate attempts to connect with the people around her is sent into a murderous tailspin.

Nina’s opinion:
“Angela Bettis, who plays May Dove Canady in ‘May’, delivers a truly twisted performance in this often overlooked treat from 2002. Her character is sweet, strange, maladjusted, and truly psychotic. This is one of those films that, while it has a good story line, isn’t really about the story line; it’s more about feeling the awkward discomfort of really great film making. If you like uncomfortable, strange, odd horror that evolves beautifully toward a cringe worthy ending, you won’t be disappointed. This one is well worth the hour and a half! Huge props to Anna Faris who plays Polly, May’s delightfully sadistic co-worker and ever-so-cruel friend.”

About Nina:

nina_darcangela

Nina D’Arcangela is a quirky horror writer who likes to spin soul rending snippets of despair. She reads anything from splatter matter to dark matter. She’s an UrbEx adventurer who suffers from unquenchable wanderlust. She loves to photograph abandoned places, bits of decay and old graveyards.

Nina is co-owner of Sirens Call Publications, co-founder of the horror writer’s group Pen of the Damned, and if that isn’t enough, put a check mark in the box next to owner and resident anarchist of Dark Angel Photography.
