Welcome to Coffin Hop 2013, and welcome guest author Julianne Snow!
A few words from Julianne….
How I Like My Horror…
Horror is my favourite genre. I do like others, but give me a good horror short, novel, or film and I will devour it. It’s one of the genres I was first introduced to and it’s stayed with me throughout my formative years and into adulthood. Horror itself spans a multitude of sub genres from apocalyptic to science fiction to erotica plus a whole host of others, but I’ve decided to reveal my three favourite sub-genres – just in case anyone was wondering.
I don’t think it will come as a shock to anyone who knows me that I love apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic horror story lines. I’m not sure what it is that attracts me to scenarios about the end of the world, but the compulsion is definitely there. And it can be any sort of apocalyptic setting: earth, another planet, aliens, fantasy worlds. If there is something going down, something forcing a people or species to fight for survival, count me in! Except for the movie Operation Ganymed – that is a torture I will not bear again…
Another realm of horror I absolutely love to delve into is comedic horror. There’s almost nothing better than the slow and measured build of tension released by a good laugh, only to be caught off-guard as you’re freaked the f&*k out! And then you get to laugh at yourself for jumping out of your skin. Never a dull moment in my opinion!
The next sub-genre on the docket delves into the psychological domain. I like horror that makes me think; the kind of horror that finds that opening and crawls under my skin to fester; the horror that stays with me long after I’ve read or watched it, continually running itself through my brain.
Sure, there are other sub-genres that I love, but these are the most popular choices when I’m in the mood to watch or read something. Heck, it’s generally the types of horror that I write as well – funny how that works out sometimes…
